Green Power Station Being Blocked

WHY FORREST’S GREEN POWER STATION IS BEING BLOCKED

Andrew Forrest has offered to build a gas and hydrogen power station in Port Kembla within the next two years, provided that the Morrison and state governments give the green light. However, while the NSW Government has given its approval, the Morrison Government and Angus Taylor are proposing to block the development of the power station until Australia’s independent market operator gives its approval.

The single unit power station is expected to produce 850 - 1,000 megawatts and will start out by burning gas, or gas and green hydrogen, before shifting to a completely green hydrogen station. However, the Australia Energy Market Operator (AEMO) stated that the size proposed is too big, and may pose a problem to overall system stability.

Dr Forrest said that the power station would need political backing and supports from both the NSW Government and federal energy ministers to make it a reality.
