CMOC-Northparkes Mines Electricity Supply Contract Request for Information

Opportunity to enter into long term electricity supply agreement for 260GWh per annum.


CMOC-Northparkes Mines, with the support of EnergyLink Services Pty Ltd, have released a request for information regarding contract options on offer from energy retailers and renewable energy project developers. Northparkes are open to all contracting options which align with its Electricity Contracting Objectives, which are:

  • Reducing short term electricity purchasing costs (2023-2025)

  • Managing medium to long term energy market risk

  • Meeting sustainability and renewable energy procurement objectives

  • Supporting local and regional investment and jobs in new electricity generation

About Northparkes Mines

CMOC Mining Services Pty Limited (CMOC) is the manager of the Northparkes Joint Venture, an unincorporated joint venture between CMOC Mining Limited (80%); Sumitomo Metal Mining Oceania Pty Ltd (13.3%) and SC Mineral Resources (6.7%). Northparkes is a copper-gold operation in Goonumbla, situated 27 kilometres north-west of the town of Parkes.

The mine consumed approximately 260 GWh in 2021, with an average demand of 29MW. It is expected this level of demand will continue into the future. There are plans to potentially increase the mine’s capacity however there has not been a final investment decision made on the expansion. The mine is currently licensed until 2032. Northparkes currently buys electricity under contract with an electricity retailer, with the contract ending 31 December 2022. The mine is seeking information from the electricity retail and renewable energy project development industry for electricity supply options from 1 January 2023.
