Danebank Anglican School for Girls recently embarked on a comprehensive sustainability journey to align its Sydney campus operations with a net-zero future. Recognising the need for a practical, data-driven strategy, the school initiated a detailed energy and carbon audit to establish 2024 as its baseline year for emissions measurements going forward. This foundational phase focused on mapping the school's carbon footprint across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and identified that Scope 2 energy consumption accounted for 91% of its direct operational impact. Hence the importance of the energy audit completed at site to inform how to actively reduce energy and subsequent scope 2 emissions. 

By prioritising transparency and strengthening internal capability, the project aimed to transform environmental goals into an actionable roadmap that balanced fiscal responsibility with ecological stewardship.

To ensure long-term success, the project integrated a robust internal capability-building program alongside technical physical upgrades. Through three dedicated training modules, staff were equipped with the knowledge to manage and quantify the school’s specific value chain activities. This educational pillar was coupled with advanced financial modelling through the development of a Marginal Abatement Cost curve. This approach allowed the school to assess the cost-effectiveness of various reduction opportunities, ensuring that future investments in efficiency not only lowered campus carbon outputs but also provided tangible financial returns through reduced operational costs.
