EnergyLink Services was engaged to support Crossmuller through Milestone 2 of the NSW Government’s Net Zero grant, focusing on strengthening governance structures and establishing   a robust greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory.

The project began with a comprehensive review of Crossmuller’s existing governance framework,  including policies, procedures and organisational structures. Based on the NSW Net Zero Business Guide and AASB S2 requirements, as well as the specific requirements of this privately owned business, pragmatic recommendations were   provided to enhance sustainability oversight.

In parallel, EnergyLink Services developed Crossmuller’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions inventory in alignment with the GHG Protocol and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS). This involved identifying emission sources,   collecting activity data, and building calculation tools to quantify emissions. The resulting inventory provides a baseline to support both   internal decision-making and compliance with Australian Sustainability   Reporting Standards (ASRS).

A key component of the  project was value chain mapping to identify relevant Scope 3 emissions categories. Given the complexity of Crossmuller’s operations, detailed assumptions and boundary decisions were documented. A customised Scope 3 calculation tool were developed to guide future data collection and reporting  for complex emissions categories such as Category 11 (Use of sold products) and Category 12 (end-of-life treatment).

The project addressed challenges including limited existing governance structures, complex organisational boundaries, and data availability constraints. Through structured methodologies and stakeholder engagement, these challenges were   managed, providing Crossmuller with a clear pathway to improve data accuracy and reporting over time.

As a result, Crossmuller is   now equipped with the governance framework recommendation, emissions baseline, and reporting tools required to progress emissions reductions and   accurately report under AASB S2. The business is positioned to enhance data systems, engage stakeholders, and implement emissions reduction initiatives.
